Protect the Tacoma Tideflats from Fossil Fuels!

  • Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility United States (map)

The city of Tacoma will vote soon on permanent regulations for the ancestral tideflats of the Puyallup Tribe, known today as the Port of Tacoma, and we need your help to demand that planning commission recommendations and the wishes of the Tribe are followed, banning the expansion of fossil fuel facilities.

These operations cause health-harming pollution like particulate matter, carcinogens and toxins, contributing to a wide array of problems including shorter life expectancy and the facilities pose direct safety threats to workers and nearby communities. On top of these local impacts, our addiction to fossil fuels is speeding us towards climate collapse and we are running out of time to take action.

Please join The Conversation on Sunday November 7th from 1-3 pm to learn more about how these regulations impact us and how to take action to protect our communities.

Register here!

Guest speakers will include Nick Manning with Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, Marquis Mason with Sunrise Tacoma, Dan Villa with 350 Tacoma. The event will be opened with storytelling by Puyallup Tribal Elder Connie McCloud.

We hope you can join us this coming Sunday. Learn more about the Tideflats regulations here.

Public testimony is needed at the Tuesday 11/9 Tacoma City Council meeting that begins at 5pm - please save the date and add your voice for a healthier Tacoma and a healthier planet!

The Conversation is a group of Tacoma and South Sound residents committed to building diverse, critically engaged communities of justice.
