Peace Through Prevention

  • Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility 2524 16th Avenue South, Ste 300 Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

Join WPSR and Ploughshares Fund for Peace Through Prevention, an annual nuclear policy conference, happening on Thursday, October 19 from 3-5pm PT.

Because of Washington State’s unique history of nuclear production and mining—and proximity to the third-largest nuclear weapons arsenal in the world—we are eager to share stories from local advocates who are working to change international nuclear weapons policy for the better. And the program will include special guest speakers’ assessments of the global nuclear landscape.

Come to hear from diplomatic luminaries, policymakers, and partners. Stay for a vibrant discussion about a range of issues relating to nuclear policy and the impact nuclear weapons have on Washingtonians.

Speakers include:

  • Soh Horie Hibakusha survivor of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima

  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)

  • Dr. Emma Belcher, president of Ploughshares Fund

  • Karl D'Ambrosio a retired nuclear Navy Senior Officer at Kitsap-Bangor, which houses one of the largest collections of deployed nuclear weapons in the country

  • Sean Arent, Nuclear Abolition Program Manager for Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, which leads the Washington Against Nuclear Weapons coalition to prevent nuclear war and abolish nuclear weapons worldwide

Ploughshares Fund Member of the Board, Gretchen Hund, and Senior Policy Advisor Tom Collina will moderate critical panel discussions on today’s nuclear threats. Additional speakers to be announced.
