From Hiroshima to Hope Annual Lantern Floating Ceremony
Presented by our friends and colleagues at From Hiroshima to Hope
On Friday, August 6, candle-lit lanterns will once again float across Green Lake at From Hiroshima to Hope, Seattle’s annual peace event honoring the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all victims of war and violence.
The event, held on Green Lake's northwest shore, begins at 6:00 PM with preparations. Pre-program activities begin at 6:00 p.m., and a family program with music and speakers begins at 7:00 p.m. The candle-lit lantern ceremony begins at 8:00 p.m.
This year's program features speaker Naomi Ishisaka, Seattle Times columnist, artist, and social justice advocate; emcee Larry Matsuda, a Seattle-based author and poet who was born in a WWII internment camp; Ebony Miranda, cellist and Black Lives Matters activist; Lacey Stevenson Warrior, musical performance; and the popular Japanese-American drum performance group, Seattle Kokon Taiko.
All COVID safety protocols will be followed. The event is made possible with funding by City of Seattle Arts & Culture, the Abe Keller Peace Education Fund, and other vital sponsors.
