Take Control of Your Health
Presented by our friends and colleagues at
Seattle King County NAACP

Please join the Seattle King County NAACP health committee as they host a virtual health fair on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join us and take control of your health as a step to personal security and survival.

Since early in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic coupled has affected many people in a variety of ways. Couple that with societal and social unrest and Communities of Color have been hit particularly hard. In addition to concerns about physical health, depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide have risen significantly. In addition, racism, protests, lack of access to healthcare, distrust of healthcare systems, and fear of law enforcement have had a negative impact on individuals both physically and mentally. In this virtual fair we’re addressing mental and physical health through a racial and equity lens and offering valuable resource information on how to receive treatment, access healthcare systems, and support friends and family members who may be experiencing a health crisis.

Confirmed speakers include:

-Professor Estilla Lightfoot from Tulane University, who will speak about racism and trauma; Substance Abuse Counselor;
-Ryan Lindsey, clinical supervisor for Adult Services at Sound (Health), who will talk about substance abuse and how those affected can be supported and treated;
-James Donaldson, former NBA player and author, who will share his personal story of triumph over a mental health crisis;
-Hannah Wilson, farm manager for Black Farmers Collective, who will talk about healthy food options and community urban farming; and
-Dr. Nancy Fisher, Chief Medical Officer from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, who discusses how to understand and navigate healthcare services.
