The Making of “Gaman”

Saturday, April 28, 2018

2PM-4PM

Meet composer Christophe Chagnard and Artistic Director Mina Miller for an introduction to Gaman, a new work commissioned by Music of Remembrance, which will receive its world premiere at Benaroya Hall on May 20, 2018. This work was inspired by the experiences of local Japanese Americans forced into incarceration camps during WWII – the words of poet Suma Yagi, the artwork of Takuichi Fujii and Roger Shimomura, and the diary and art of Kamekichi Tokita. Musical illustrations by Ringtaro and Asako Tateishi (fue flute and taiko drum).

WPSR is a community sponsor, and will present information about our statewide coalition, Washington Against Nuclear Weapons.

This event is free. Donations welcome! Please RSVP as space is limited. To RSVP and hold your seat, visit https://bit.ly/2K3W39F

Or spend the day, visit the galleries, and travel back 100 years on the Historic Hotel tour (included with Museum admission).
