Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility is a nonpartisan advocacy and education organization of health professionals and concerned citizens, working to address the greatest existential threats to human health. Our working board of directors is comprised of compassionate and committed professionals from the health and other professions who are dedicated to the well-being and efficacy of the organization, and to our mission and core causes.

Programs and Services:
WPSR’s programs address the gravest existential threats to public health and human survival that cannot be solved through medical intervention, and for which prevention is the only treatment. Our three programs focus on the issues of: Economic Inequity, Climate Change, and Nuclear Weapons.
Ideal candidates generally have experience either in the health/medical field and/or one of our core programmatic/issue areas. However, we are also looking to add board members with specific experience such that they might not fit the above description, i.e. people with a legal background, marketing, and communications, fundraising, membership organizations, finance & accounting, HR, etc.

WPSR is a small but well-established, well-respected, and highly effective advocacy organization working to address the gravest threats to health that affect all Washingtonians. We are a community of committed and passionate staff and board members, task force members, volunteers, and supporters. As the independent WA state chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, we are also part of a larger network and community of people and organizations across the country, and worldwide, working on these critical issues.
Financial and Fundraising Commitment:
GIVE: Board members are expected to make a personally meaningful financial contribution.
GIVE/GET: Board members are expected to participate in fundraising activities, no specific amount stated.
Time Commitment
Board Meetings and other events: 12 meetings per year, 2 hours in length on weekday evenings
Other events: We expect board members to attend some events (e.g. retreats or annual galas) in person and participate remotely in regular meetings
Service per month expected: 1-5 hours/month
Directors & Officers Insurance is provided.
The board of directors is seeking new members who are:
Passionate about WPSR’s mission of protecting human health and survival;
Excited to join a diverse and dynamic team of board and staff members, and a hard-working, collaborative, transparent, and inclusive organizational culture;
Committed to integrating equity and inclusion in policy decisions;
Willing to engage in our communication efforts to enhance the public profile and work of WPSR;
Willing to help with fundraising and to build a culture of philanthropy; and
Ready to engage in this important work!
We are especially interested in candidates who:
Are Washingtonians living outside the Puget Sound area;
Come from diverse racial, ethnic, gender, professional and other backgrounds,
Have experience or strong expertise in any of the following:
Public health policy and/or research
Any of our three core issue areas (climate change, economic inequity, or nuclear weapons)
Finance, accounting, marketing, fundraising, law, strategic planning
